Absolute Beginners
The club was formed in 1980, in the middle of the MOD revival. Spurred on by the success of the recently released film "Quadrophenia", the Park View Mods, as they became known, met at Park View Cafe opposite Ynysangharad Park, and attended many local and national rallies and music events.
Pretty Green
The late eighties saw the emergence of the "scooterboys", with lights and mirrors giving way to Metalflake paint jobs and engraved engine casings. The Vespas and Lambrettas remained though, and so did the rally attendance.
Away from the Numbers
However, as people grew older, family commitments took priority and many members drifted away. A few of the founder members carried the torch on though, notably Mike Knowles and Steve Garland who had his Li150 "the darling of wapping wharf launderette" featured in Scootering Magazine in 1991.
Brand New Start
In the mid nineties with the britpop explosion, scooters were once again in the public eye. The founder members saw that the time was right to bring the scooter club up to date, and a newly revitalised PDSC once more attended the rallies. Meirion and Steve's scooters were featured in The Guardian as part of an article on the MOD lifestyle, photographed on the seafront at Hastings Untouchables Rally. Mikes wife Pam, tired of pillion, passed her bike test and Mike built her "reflections" - one of the prettiest Vespa GS160s ever to be seen in the UK. It was immediately spotted by the Scootering photographer on its first rally appearance, and was featured in Scootering Magazine soon afterwards.
Into Tomorrow
The Ponty Firm continue to attend rallies to this day, proudly wearing the club badge, ensuring its existence for many years to come.
